Marek Bracha and Atom String Quartet combined classical music with jazz in a joint performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A major, KV 414. Given its extensive cadenzas, the piece yielded itself surprisingly well to a piano quintet arrangement with a string quartet playing the orchestral role. The cadenzas traditionally offer room for virtuoso piano displays, but in this version the passages were filled with new content as each of the musicians was given an equal role and the freedom to improvise. The arrangement throws a new light on the original by offering a fresh take on its dramatic structure. The project was well received by Warsaw audiences during the 26th Mozart Festival in 2016 as well as on the Wisłostrada Sztuki Festival in September 2017.
